Chapter 1 Flashcards
What are scalers and vectors?
Scalars are physical quantities with only magnitude. Vectors are physical quantities with both magnitude and direction.
What is acceleration and the formula for it
Acceleration is how quickly you’re speeding up. The formula is a=v-u/t
What is uniform acceleration and the formula for it
Uniform acceleration is constant acceleration and the formula is v squared - u squared = 2 x a x distance
What is the formula for weight
weight= mass x gravitational field strength
What is the formula for momentum
Momentum= Mass x velocity
What is the conservation of momentum?
In a closed system the total momentum before an event is equal to the total momentum after an event.
What is newton’s first law
Newton’s first law states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force.
What is newton’s second law
Force = mass x acceleration.
The force is dependent on the mass and acceleration of an object
What is newton’s third law
His third law states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction
What is inertia
An object moving will continue moving and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an external force. First law
How do you work out force
F= change in momentum/time
