take medications with food, motility stimulants for constipation
super infections
fever, diareah, vaginal dischard, black or hairy tongue
mouth/skin supportive care, antifungal medications, stop drug responsible if needed
blood dyscrasis
bone marrow supression by drug effects rapidly multiplying on bone marrow
fever, chills, sore throat, weakness, back pain, dark urine, pancytopenia
monitor blood counts CBC, protective isolation, protection from bleeding or injury
liver (Hepatoxicity)
fever, malaise, nausea, jaundice, change in color of urine, elevated liver enzymes(ALT,AST, Bilirubin)
discontinue med
Kidney (nephrotoxicity)
change in urinary pattern, elevated BUN and creatine, electrolyte imbalance
notify physician, may need to stop drug
hypoglycemia
low Blood sugar fatigue, drowsiness, hunger, anxiety, headache, cold and clammy skin, increased HR BP
restore glucose, monitor glucose levels
hyperglycemia
fatigue, polyuria, polydipsia, deep respirations, restlessnes, nausea, vomiting, fruity odor to breath
administer insulin therapy to decrease glucose level
hypokalemia
low potassium levels
weakness, numbness, tingling of extremeties, nausea, vomitting, diareah, muscle cramps, irregular pulse
replace serum potassium levels, monitor levels
hyperkalemia
high potassium levels
weakness, cramps, tingling, high heart rate
decrease serum potassium concentration, monitor levels, monitor cardiac rhythm
