Health (WHO 1946)
a state of complete physical, social and mental wellbeing, and not merely the absense of disease or infirmity
Wellbeing
a complex combination of all dimensions of health, characterised by an equilibrium in which the individual feels happy, healthy, capable and engaged
Subjective
influenced by or based on a persons feelings, opinions and experiences
Optimal Health and Wellbeing
the best possible state of an individuals health and wellbeing for their age
Physical Health and Wellbeing
- functioning of the body and its systems
- physical capacity to perform daily activities and tasks
SUPPORTED BY FACTORS SUCH AS - regular physical activity
- consuming balanced diet
- appropriate rest and sleep
- maintaining ideal body weight
- absence of illness, disease, injury
Social Health and Wellbeing
- ability to form meaningful and satisfying relationships with others
- to manage or adapt appropriately to different social situations
- includes level of support from family and community to ensure every person has equal opportunity to function as a contributing member of society
- supported by strong communication skills, empathy for others and sense of personal responsibility
Relationship
a connection between two or more people and their involvement with and behaviour towards one another
Mental Health and Wellbeing
current state of wellbeing relating to the mind or brain
- ability to think and process information
- positively form opinions, make decisions and use logic
- stress, anxiety, self-esteem, confidence, optimism
Self-Esteem
how a person feels about their own abilities and self-worth
Emotional Health and Wellbeing
ability to express feelings in a positive way
- emotionally secure and relaxed in everyday life
- management and expression of emotional actions
- ability to display resilience
Resilience
capacity to thrive, learn, care, and contribute in adversity, change, or challenge
Spiritual Health and Wellbeing
- not material
- ideas, beliefs, vales, ethics
- in mind and conscience of humans
- hope, peace, meaning
