Chapter 1 Flashcards
rationality
an abstract, formal definition of intelligence; loosely speaking, doing the “right thing”
What are the two main ways people consider intelligence?
- property of internal thought processes and reasoning
- intelligent behavior, an external characterization
Who made the turing test?
Alan Turing (1950)
What was the Turing test?
a three-person game in which a computer uses written communication to try to fool a human interrogator into thinking that it’s another person
used to determine whether or not a computer is capable of thinking like a human being
What would happen if a computer had natural language processing?
Would allow a computer to communicate successfully in a language (e.g. English)
What would happen if a computer had knowledge representation?
Allows it to store what it knows or hears
What would happen if a computer had automated reasoning?
allows it to use the stored information to answer questions and draw new conclusions
What would happen if a computer had machine learning?
allows it to adapt to new circumstances and detect and extrapolate patters
Total Turing Test requires interaction with objects and poeple in the real world. What does a robot need to pass this test?
computer vision and speech recognition to perceive the world
robotics to manipulate objects and move about
What is the approach for a computer Acting humanly?
Turing test approach
What is the approach for a computer thinking humanly?
cognitive modeling approach
