Why do we have the ability to choose from right and wrong?
When God created us he placed his law in our hearts
What are two names for the law that God put in our hearts?
Human reason, natural law
How do we understand the natural law?
Through our conscience
What is our conscience?
The ability to know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil
What enables us to make choices?
Our conscience
What is free will?
The freedom and ability to choose what we do
What is original sin
The first sin committed by the first humans. As their descendants we are now born with this sin
What is sin?
Any thought, deed, omission or word against God’s love.
What sacrament does God offer us the hope of eternal life?
Baptism
What is eternal life?
A life with God and happiness forever
What is grace?
A participation or sharing in God’s life and friendship
What is a mortal sin?
A sin that breaks our friendship with God and takes away his grace
If one commits a mortal sin, what is the only way of having hope of eternal life?
We must repent though the sacrament of Penance
On what 3 conditions is a sin classified as a mortal sin?
1) the sin is about a serious matter
2) we commit the sin knowing that it is seriously wrong
3) we committed the sin completely on our own free will
What is a venial sin?
A less serious sin that weakens our friendship with God
What happens if one continues to commit venial sins?
It leads us farther away from the God and the Church
What is holiness?
A participation in God’s goodness and a response to God’s love by the way we live
Who makes up the Holy Trinity?
God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit
What is an apprentice?
A pupil who learns a specific skill or trade under the guidance of a master teacher
Who was the master teacher?
Jesus
Jesus showed his followers that through discipleship to him they would share what in this life?
Love, freedom, justice, and peace
By being disciples of Jesus we do what?
Choose eternal life over eternal death and sin
What is the Kingdom of God?
The power of God’s love active in our lives and in the world
