Main residential street in town, along with Calpurnia, the cook.

Satisfactory. He played, read, and treated Jem and Scout very well.
[Ch.1] What type of town is Maycomb? What time was it for the people?
A tired old town in Alabama. It was a time of vague optimism for some people: it was recently told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself.
[Ch.1] How does Calpurnia treat Scout?
She was always ordering Scout out of the kitchen and didn’t seem to like Scout [as much as Jem]. Scout doesn’t like her “tyrannical presence.”
[Ch.1] What happened to Scout’s mother? How does this affect Jem?
She was a Graham from Montgomery who died from a sudden heart attack when Jem was six, and Scout was two.
Scout does not care much about this, but Jem sometimes become suddenly sad whenever he suddenly thought of her, and would want to be alone.

Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose’s house two doors to the north and the Radley place three doors to the south.

The Radley place was mysterious with creatures; Mrs. Dubose was plain h*ll.

- Dill (Charles Baker Harris) is almost seven years old and can read.
- He is from Meridian, Mississippi, and will spend every summer from now on in Maycomb with his aunt, Miss Rachel Haverford.
