chapt 5 (turning effects of forces) Flashcards
1
Q
what are moments of a force? (1) everyday examples? (2)
A
moment of a force about a pivot is the product of a force and the perpendicular distance from the pivot to the LOA of force.
Door hinge and lifting lid of a tin using spoon.
2
Q
principal of moments? (1)
A
When body is in equilibrium, sum of CWM about a pivot is = to sum of ACWM about the same pivot.
3
Q
Centre of Gravity? (1)
A
An imaginary point where all the weight of the object is acting on.
