Chapman and Autonomics Flashcards
What is the facilitated segment?
constatn afferent barrage by injured somatic or visceral structures that leads to segmental excitation
What is facilitation?
Maintenance of a pool of neurons in a state of subthreshold excitation, due to sustained increase in afferent input, **aberrant patterns of afferent input, changes w/n participating neurons, or neuron chemical environment
Allostasis?
response to stress to regain homeostasis
What does long term spinal facilitation produce?
allostasis overload resulting in hyperalgesia
Example of somatosomatic reflex
Withdrawal response and myotatic response
Viscerovisceral reflex?
gastrocolic,
Somatovisceral reflex?
Somatocardiac, somatogastric, somatoadrenal
sympathetic for head and neck

What are chapman reflexes
- Group of palpable points considered to be reflections of visceral dysfunction or disease
What are three componenet characteristics of chapman points?
- Viscerosomatic reflexes of both diagnostic and treatment value
- Gangliform contraction that blocks lymph drainage and causes symp dysfxn
- series of consistenet reproducibile ant and post points related to specific organs and conditions
