Appellate committee of the House of Lords
The committee in the House of Lords which until 2005, used to sit as the highest court in the land
British bill of rights and duties
A proposal made by various political parties to replace the Human rights act which if approved will be the first step towards creating a written constitution for the UK
Constitutional reform act 2005
It redefined the role of the the lord chancellor and created the Supreme Court of the UK. It was intentée to provide for a better separation of powers.
Dévolution
The transfer of certain limited powers from the UK Parliament to regional gouvernement granting the devolved systèmes powers to make decisions in certain matters like education or health. But Parliament has still an authority and the powers given to the regional governments can be withdrawn at any time.
European convention on human rights
an international treaty to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms which was drafted by the council of Europe end entered in force in 1953
Human rights act
Came in force in 2000 and incorporate into UK law rights that are fountained in the European convention on human rights

Creation of the UK Supreme Court
In order to respect the principle of separation of powers and ART 6 of the ECHR regarding the
right to a fair trial, the UK Supreme Court was created in 2009.
As the Human Right Act incorporated,
; the European Convention on Human Right in 1951 into UK law, an individual may bring his/her case regarding an alleged violation of his/her fundamental rights before UK courts.
Since 2005
Since 2005 the Lord Chancellor had only been a member of the Cabinet (the Secretary of State for Justice), responsible for the efficient functioning and independence of the courts.
Although the Conservative- Liberal Democrat coalition
Although the Conservative- Liberal Democrat coalition agreed on the Five Year Fixed Term Parliaments Act, it failed to pass other reforms, such as the reform of the voting system or a House of Lords reform.
Perfusant to the European Union Withdrawal Bill,
all EU laws will become British laws, the ECA will be repealed, and the jurisdiction of the European Court of justice will end.
