Why were Africans chosen to replace native slaves?
They had immunity to Europe diseases, experience in farming, ignorance of landscape, and they were easily identifiable by skin color

Did Africans cooperate?
Yes: Local African rulers traded Africans for gold, guns and other goods
No: agency of Africans would resist enslavement
What was the triangular trade system?
Europe offered manufactured goods, Africa offered slaves, and the americas offered raw material
What was the middle passage?
It was a voyage that brought Africans to West Indies and then transported them to the americas by boat. The conditions were awful. 20% died each trip due to disease or committing suicide
Who was olaudah equiano?
A famous, educated slave that wrote about the middle passage, and his life as a slave
What was the African agency?
Africans rebelled privately and publicly. Private:breaking tools, working slowly, uprooting crops
What were the consequences of slavery?
Broke apart African families. Africans gave their culture to the americas
