Chap 7 stimulus control Flashcards
When is a behaviour considered to be under stimulus control?
A behaviour is said to be under stimulus control when theres a high chance of it occurring in the presence of a specific antecedent stimulus
what is an antecedent?
antecedents are the stimuli, events or situations in which a behaviour happens
What is a discriminative stimulus (Sd)
a Discriminative stimulus is the antecedent stimulus that is present when a behaviour is reinforced
What is stimulus discrimination training and what are its 2 steps?
its the process of reinforcing a behaviour only when the Discriminative stimulus is present. The two processes involved are:
- when Sd is present, behaviour is reinforced
- when any other antecedent stimulus is present, behaviour is not reinforced
What is an S-Delta?
S-Delta is any other antecedent stimuli that is not reinforced or does not lead to the desired outcome
What is the 3 term contingency?
involved in stimulus training where the consequence (reinforcer or punisher) is contingent to the occurrence of the behaviour only the presence of the specific antecedent stimulus called the Sd
What is stimulus generalization?
when a behaviour occurs in the presence of stimuli that are similar in some way to the Sd that was present during stimulus discrimination training.
What is a generalization gradient?
The more similar another stimulus is to the Sd, the more likely it is that the behaviour will occur in the presence of that stimulus. of the stimuli are less and less similar to the Sd then the behaviour is less likely to occur in the presence of these stimuli
What are stimulus class?
Stimulus class are antecedent stimuli that share similar features and have the same functional effect on a behaviour
