A branch of math that uses symbols to represent unknown numbers or quantities.
What is a Term?
An expression formed from the product of numbers and/or variables.
ie: 9x is a term representing the product of 9 and x.
What is a Coefficient?
Any number or numerical value multiplied by a variable.
ie: 9x, 9 is the coefficient.
What is the Degree of a Term?
The sum of the exponents on each variable in the term.
ie: 3x², the degree is 2.
What is a Polynomial?
An algebraic expression made up of terms connected by the operations of addition or subtraction.
ie: 3x² - 4 has two terms connected by the operation of + or -
What is the Degree of a Polynomial?
The highest degree term in a polynomial.
ie: -3a² + 2a - 1, the degree is 2.
What is a Monomial?
A polynomial with one term.
What is a Binomial?
A polynomial with 2 terms.
What is a Trinomial?
A polynomial with 3 terms.
What is a Polynomial?
A polynomial with many terms.

terms that differ only by their numerical coefficients (order don’t matter)
ie: 3sq2 - 3Xsq2

set of two numbers that when added together equal zero
Adding polynomials
To add polynomials, get rid of the brackets and combine like terms
