Pulse
The rthymic expansion of an artery that occurs as the heart beats
Resporation
Refers either to the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide within the body or to breathing
Blood Pressure
The pressure exerted by the circulating volume of the blood on the walls of the arteries, veins, and chambers of the heart
Inspection
Examiner uses eye and ears to observe and listen to the patient
Palpation
Examiner feels the texture, size, consistency and location of certain body parts with their hands
Percussion
Examiner taps the body with fingertips or fist to evaluate the size, boarder, and consistency of internal organs and to dtermine amount of fluid in a body cavity
Auscultation
Examiner listens for sounds within rhe body to evaluate the heart, blood vessels, lungs, intestines, ect. using a stethoscope
Endoscope
Illuminating instrument for the visualization of the interior of a body cavity or organ
Endoscopic
Pertaining to endoscopy or performed using an endoscope
Catheter
Hollow flexible tube that can be inserted into a cavity of the body to withdraw or instill fluids, perform tests, or visualize a vessle or cavity
Cannula
Latin for Catheter; Used to mean a hollow flexible tube that is inserted into vessle or cavity
Invasive Procedure
Requires entering the body cavity or interruption of normal body function
Radiography
The predominant means of diagnostic imaging, with x-rays providing image data (film) of internal structure
Radiopaque
Substance that do not permit the passage of x-rays
Radiolucent
Substance that readily permits the passage of x-rays
