How do geographers use the five themes and six essential elements in geography?
- The world in spatial term- where things are located
- Places and Regions - the land, the weather and the plants and animals of an area
- Physical Systems such as earthquakes and volcanoes shape the Earths surface and how living things depend on each other
- Human Systems- how people have shaped the world
- Environment and Society- how people change their environment and are changed by it
What are the key ways maps are used?
- Physical maps show land and water on the surface of the Earth
- Political Maps show the borders and names of countries
- Special-purpose maps show specific information like population and where resources are located
What are the uses of charts graphs and diagrams
Charts arrange numbers and other data in rows and columns
- Bar graphs use wide lines to show data. Good for comparing amounts
- Line graphs show changes over time
- Pie or circle graphs show how the whole of something is divided in parts
How do geographers study population and culture?
- Population is the number of people who live in a specific place
- Study the movement of people from one place to another (migration)
- Geographers are interested in how people think and act. They look at culture and behaviors.
