Chap 15 Flashcards
How does the tocotransducer work?
Measures UA transabdominally, it is placed over the fundus above the above the umbillicus and held securely with an elastic belt
Can measure frequency and duration of UC (contractions)
How does the ultrasound transducer work
Works by reflecting high frequency sound waves off a moving interfaces (the fetal heart and valves)
How many mins is a segment for a baseline fetal HR
10 mins
Tachycardia in a newborn is identified as
160 beats/min for 10 mins or longer
What are periodic changes
Fetal heart rate changes that occur with uterine contractions
What are episodic changes
Fetal heart rate changes that are not associated with uterine contractions
What is variability of the FHR
Irregular waves or fluctuations in the baseline FHR of two cycles per minute minute or greater
What is absent variability of the FHR
Amplitude range of the FHR fluctuations that is not detectable to the unaided eye
What is minimal amplitude
Detectable to the unaided eye but is 5 beats/min or less
What is moderate variability
It is considered normal
What is sinusoidal variability
Regular smooth and undulating wavelike pattern for at least 20 mins
What can cause early declarations
Head compression from uterine contractions vaginal exam or fundal pressure
What can cause late decelerations
Epidural placenta previa placental abruption maternal supine hypotension
