chap 15 Flashcards
how much oxygen does room air contain ?
21 percent
oxygen percentage in terms of FLOW of litre per minute ?
24 = 1 L/min
28 = 2L/min
31 = 3 L/min
36 = 4 L/min
40 = 5 L/min
44 = 6L/min
= nasal canula
48 = 7L/min
52 =8L/min
56 = 9L/min
60 = 10L
= simple face mask
15l/MIN = 65-95 PERCENT
PaO2 should be 10 less than the inspired conc of oxygen
if 40 percent oxygen breathed = 5-6L/min
then Pa02 = 30 Kpa
if not something wrong with the lungs
too much CO2 can lead to acidosis when does this happen in terms of ventilation ?
when patient - hyperventilating
in cardiac arrest VBG more accurate than ABG … but post resus which is more accurate ?
ABG
what will be increased after cardiac arrest ?
lactate - due to reduced tissue perfusion
after ROSC decreasing lactate
why is VBG preferred in cardiac arrest ?
because blood being sampled after it has passed through tissue
what are pulse oximeter affected by
presence of other hemoglobins - carboxyhemoglobin - carbon monoxide poisoning
methaehemoglobin
fetal hemoglobin
sickle cell disease
surgical and imagine dyes
nail varnish
motion artefact
reduced pulse volume - hypotension ! , low cardiac output . vasoconstriction , hypothermia
what is pulse oximetry not affected by ?
anemia and jaundice
disadvantage of pulseoximetre
does not provide reliable signal during CPR
