What forms in the mesoderm?
Skeletal, urinary, circulatory, and reproductive organs.
What forms in the ectoderm?
CNS, special senses, skin, and glands.
What forms in the endoderm?
Respiratory system, liver, pancreas, and digestive system
What is hCG?
A hormone: preserves the corpus luteum and its progesterone production to protect the lining if the uterus; basis for pregnancy tests.
What is Human placental lactogen (hPL)?
A hormone that regulates fetal/maternal metabolism. Develops maternal breast for lactation, and increases availability of insulin to baby.
What role does estrogen play in pregnancy?
Enlargement of breasts, uterus, and external genitalia. Stimulates myometerial contractility.
What role does progesterone play in pregnancy?
Maintains endometrium, decreases contractions, stimulates metabolism and breast development.
What does the ductus venosus connect?
Umbilical vein to inferior vena cava.
What does the ductus arteriousus connect?
Main pulmonary artery to the aorta.
What is the foramen ovale?
Opening between the left and right atrium.
