Chap 1: Ratios and Rates Flashcards
the greatest of the factors that two or more numbers have in common
Greatest Common Factor – GCF
the smallest whole number greater than zero that is a common multiple of two or more numbers
Least Common Multiple – LCM
A comparison of two quantities by division. Can be written as 2 out of 3, 2 to 3, 2:3, or 2/3.
Ratio
A ratio comparing two quantities with different kinds of units.
Rate
The cost per unit.
Unit Price
A rate that is simplified so that it has a denominator of 1.
Unit rate
ratios that express the same relationships between two quantities.
Equivalent Ratio
A table with columns filled with pairs of numbers that have the same ratio.
Ratio Table
To multiply or divide two related quantities by the same number.
Scaling
A plane in which a horizontal number line and a vertical number line intersect at their zero points.
Coordinate plane
To place a dot at a point named by an ordered pair.
Graph
A pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate plane. It is written in the form of (x,y).
Ordered Pair
The point of intersection of the x-axis and y-axis on a coordinate plane (0,0)
Origin
The horizontal line of the two perpendicular number lines in a coordinate plane
x-axis
The first number of an ordered pair. It corresponds to a number on the x-axis.
