What are endogenous factors, example?
Internal factors which shape a places character e.g demographic, physical geography
What are exogenous factors, examples?
External factors which shape a places character e.g flows of people, ideas, money
What is the character of a place?
The physical and human features that help to distinguish it from another place
Endogenous: How can physical characteristics shape the character of place? (3)
1 - Location: Places characterised by the features that are present due to their location e.g Area seen as a trade centre if located near many roads
2 - Topography: In a valley, places characterised as flat - Area then used for farmland
3 - Physical geography: Area rich in natural resources attract industry. Place then characterised as industrial

Land use:
- Place defined as rural or urban depending on land use
- High rise buildings create bussiness oriented feel vs sparse buildings create feel of leisure
- Changes over time e.g deindustrialisation

What is gentrification?
Wealthy people move to poorer areas and improve housing
What are the exogenous factors that can shape the character of a place? (4)
1 - Location to other places - villiage on oiutskirts of cities seen a commuter settlements: people live in villiages but work in city
2 - Tourism - Create employement + change built environment e.g hotels
3 - Investment - Create employment and change land use e.g factories
4 - Migration - Change demographic of pop, change ideas e.g more tolernace
