Development
Development means positive change that makes things better as a country develops it usually means that people standard of living and quality-of-life will improve

This shows changes over time and population of a country it is based on the changes that took place in western countries such as the UK. The gap between birth and death rate is called natural change this usually shows a natural increase in population

A population pyramid or “age-gender-pyramid” is a graphical illustration of the distribution of a population by age groups and gender; it typically forms the shape of a pyramid when the population is growing.

For some countries tourism has helped to reduce the development gap countries with tropical beaches nice landscapes and wildlife have become tourist destinations which has led to investment and increased income from the board which can be used for improving education and housing.
Reducing the gap - goat aid from Oxfam
Goat aid Oxfam is a project set up to help families in African countries like Malawi. The money donated is used by family goat which produces milk butter and meat this has many advantages because-
-goats are an excellent food source
-manure can be used as a crop fertiliser
-milk can be sold as a source of income
All of this helps to improve peoples quality-of-life and to raise the level of development

Jamaica is one of the largest island in the West Indies with a population of 2.7 million it’s economy is based upon a range of minerals such as oil it is classed as an ‘upper middle income country’ but has suffered from slow growth and higher unemployment over a long period period
Tourism in Jamaica
Tourism is one of the few growth sectors of Jamaica’s economy, the country has become a popular tourist destination offering beautiful beaches and a warm sunny climate.
Tourism is important to make an economy and over the last few decades it has helped the level of development in Jamaica and reduce the development gap.

In 2014 tourism Contributed 24% of Jamaica’s GDP which is expected to rise to 32% by 2024.
Income from tourism is $2 billion each year and tax is paid to the government contribute further to the development of the country.
Increase in tourism from cruises has bought many benefits.

Tourism is the main source of employment in Jamaica provides jobs for 200,000 people
Jamaica quality of life
In the northern tourist areas of Montego Bay wealthy Jamaicans live in high-quality housing of a high standard of living these areas have benefited from the tourism industry. However large numbers of people live nearby in poor housing with limited food supply and then in adequate access to freshwater, healthcare and education
Jamaica’s environment
Mass tourism can create environmental problems such as footpath erosion, excessive waste and harmful emissions they can also bring benefits.
