Continuities: religion and beliefs about the natural world continued
Rise of classical civilizations
Changes: complex state structures, spread of ideas and expansion of trade, new tech
Continuities: patriarchal and social hierarchies, religious and culture shaped lives
Age of Exploration
Change: colonization of the Americas, Africa, Asia which led to spread of ideas and tech, new economic systems
Continuity: European powers still dominated trade and politics
Industrial Revolution
Change: new tech transformed manufacturing and transportation, increased global trade, led to economic growth and productivity increase
Continuity: imperialism continued, poverty continued and got worse, social inequalities, harsh labor conditions
World War 1
Change: END OF EUROPEAN DOMINANCE, worsened economic conditions which made harder to maintain colonization
Continuity: nationalism and imperialism continued, peace was still not existing across Europe
Decolonization
Change: major powers had less access to raw materials, emergence of new nation-states like in Africa and Asia, end of European colonialism
Continuities: new nations still faced challenges of economic development, political instability, and ethnic conflict
The Cold War
Change: ended with capitalism spreading and led to end of Soviet Union
Continuity: nationalism continued to increase and affected international relationships, threat of nuclear war remained a major fear
World War 2
Change: emergence of US and Soviet Union as major powers, began the end of European dominance
Continuities: Continued economic globalization, transnational companies, United Nations, which sought to promote economic cooperation and prevent wars
United Nations FAILED to prevent wars (seen in the Cold War) due to lack of resources, limited authority, and geopolitical divisions
