A
- More than half the city’s population lives in the slums.
- The response is urban protests such as hunger strikes resulting in Dinshaw Trust (NGO) offering temporary relocations. However they were remote and back in rural areas which people didn’t want and wasn’t good for them.

A
- Lack of education
- Lack of access to employment (too many people to provide jobs for).
- The response is many NGOs providing micro financing to small vendors which get recognised by the government and turned into new jobs.
- The government makes jobs such as building infrastructure or being cleaners.

Challenges and responses to do with health and wellbeing
A
- Lack of safe drinking water and untreated sewage waste.
- Response is NGOs trying to prevent ‘night soilers’ who have to clean the sewers and are put in risky and unsanitary situations.
- Pollution.
- Response is National Clean Air program aims to cut emissions by 24% before 2024.

Challenges and responses to do with infrastructure
A
- Poor infrastructure (6 hrs of drinking water a day)
- Response is the local Mumbai government attempting to maintain the current water system with significant investment.
- Lack of traffic infrastructure.
- Response is many NGOs helping the Mumbai government to lower the issue with Mumbai Transport Project which is responsible for construction of public transport.
