A

-when injured a solider would be collected by a stretcher bearer and carried to their first stage of treatment

Regimental AID Posts (RAP)

A
  • gave immediate first aid
  • aimed to get as ,an men back fighting
  • could not deal with serious injuries
  • usually located near the frontline, in communication trenches or abandoned buildings

Advanced dressing stations (ADS) & Main Dressing Stations (MDS)

  • dealt with more serious injuries
  • located on abandoned buildings, bunkers or tents
  • staff belonged to a unit of RAMC called the field ambulance
  • dealt with 150+ patients

Casualty Clearing Stations (CCS)

A
  • dealt with more critical injuries
  • set up in buildings such as factories and schools
  • men were divided into 3 groups
    1. ) Walking wounded would be patched up and sent back to war
    2. ) Those needing further treatment would be sent to a base hospital
    3. )Those with no chance of survival were made comfortable but no medical resources were spent on them

Base hospitals

A
  • located near the coast so men could be shipped back to Britain
  • specialised facilities for different types of wounds
  • as CCS were closer to the battlefield they ended up doing most operations originally intended for the base hospitals
