What is it used for?
A
To predict stroke risk in patients with a-fib to guide selection of proper anticoagulation therapy

What does it stand for?
A
C - chronic HF H - HTN A - age > 75 D - DM S - [prior] stroke (or TIA)

Why is there a “2” in the name?
A
The last category, prior stroke or TIA (“S”) is worth 2 points, where the CHAD categories are worth 1 point each
