Ch9 Current And Voltage Flashcards
1
Q
What is the equation for charge
A
Charge = current X Time
2
Q
What does an ammeter
measure
A
The size of the current flowing in a circuit
3
Q
What does volts measure
A
The amount of energy given to the charges by a cell or battery
4
Q
What is a series circuit
A
Simple single loop circuit
5
Q
What is a parallel circuit
A
Branches and junctions. More than one path the current can follow along
6
Q
What are the properties of a series circuit
A
- One switch can turn on/off all the components
- If one component breaks, it causes a gap in the circuit and causes the others to stop
- Voltage supply is shared by all the components. The more bulbs, the dimmer. The larger the resistance, the bigger its share of the voltage.
7
Q
What are the properties of a parallel circuit
A
- Switches can be placed in different parts to switch off each bulb individually, or altogether
- If one component breaks, only those on the same branch stop working
- It’s branch receives the same voltage. More bulbs being added doesn’t affect the brightness.
8
Q
Is current used up as it travels around a series circuit
A
No. Current stays the same in all parts of a series circuit
9
Q
In metal wires, what carries charges
A
Electrons
