Ch11 Properties Of Waves Flashcards
What is a longitudinal wave
A longitudinal wave oscillates along the direction in which the energy or wave is moving
What is the amplitude of the wave
The maximum movement of particles from their resting position caused by a wave
What is a wavelength
The distance between a particular point on the wave on the same point on the next wave
What is the frequency of a wave
The number of waves produced each second by a source, or the number passing a particular point each second. Measured in hertz
What is the period of a wave
The time taken for the source to produce one waves
Frequency= 1/Time period
What is the wave equation
Wave speed = frequency X wavelength
What is a transverse wave
A transverse wave oscillates at right angles to the direction in which the energy or wave is moving
