Ch9 Flashcards
Portion of the target population to which the researcher has reasonable access
Accessible population
Process of selecting a group of people, events, behaviors or other elements tht rep the population being studied
Sampling
All elements (individuals, objects, events,or substances) tht meet the sampling criteria for inclusion in a study
Target population
JUDGEMENTAL sampling tht involves the conscious selection by the researcher of certain subjects or elements to include in a study
Purposive sampling
List of the characteristics essential for membership in the target population
Sampling criteria
Random sampling technique which every member of the population has a probability higher than zero of being selected for the sample
✨Ie:simple random sampling…stratified random sampling…cluster sampling…systemic sampling
Probability sampling
Sampling technique selecting ever ktH individual from an ordered list of all members of a population, using a randomly selected starting point
Systemic sampling
Random selection of subjects from the sampling frame for a study
Simple random sampling
Random sampling techniques used when the researcher knows some of the variables in the population tht are critical to achieving representativeness ; sample is divided into groups using those variables
Stratified random sampling
Sampling technique in which a frame is developed tht includes a list of all states, cities, institutions or organizations tht cld be used in a study…
a randomized sample is drawn from tht list.
Cluster sampling
Snowballing technique tht takes advantage of social networks & the fact tht friends tend to hold characteristics in common; subjects meeting sample criteria are asked to assist in locating others wit similar characteristics
Network sampling
Sampling in which not every element of the population has an opportunity for selection such as convince sampling, quota sampling, purposive sampling,& network sampling
Non-probability sampling
Convince sampling technique wit an added strategy to ensure the inclusion of subjects who are likely to be underrepresented in the convenience sample, such as women
Quota sampling
Sampling technique tht involves including subjects in a study bcz their ass was in the right place @ the right time
Convenience sampling
Sampling method often used in grounded theory research to develop a selected theory through the research process.
Theoretical sampling
