Ch10 Flashcards
Error tht occurs consistently in one direction such as a scale tht weighs everyone 4 pounds less tht can alter study results & must be minimized
Systematic measurement error
Lowest level of measurement when data can be organized into categories tht are exclusive & exhaustive bt the categories can’t be rank-ordered
Nominal scale measurements
Error tht is the difference between the measurement & true value of a variable tht is without a pattern
Random measurement error
Multiple item scale used to measure perceptions of a phenomenon in a study, such as a 20 item scale used to measure perception of pain wit ratings. 1- strongly disagree 4-strongly agree
Likert scale
Consistency of the measurement technique
Reliability
How well the instrument measures what it’s suppose to measure
Validity
Level of measurement wit categories tht can be rank-ordered such as level of functional status-poor function status, average or good
Ordinal scale measurement
Scale tht uses 100-mm line for a subject to mark, tht indicates the placement of his or her score.
Visual analog scale
Measurement of a concrete variable ie: blood pressure is involved in this type of measurement
Direct measurement
Measurement of an abstract idea (ie:anxiety) is involved
Indirect measurement
Questions posed orally to a study participant as a way of collecting data
Interview
Level of measurement with equal intervals bt without an absolute ZERO
Interval scaled measurement
Level of measurement wit equal intervals & an absolute zero point
Ratio-scale measurement
Difference between true measure vs actual measure
Measurement error
Measurement method requiring observation of specific elements in a situation
Structured observational measurement
