Ch7 Multimedia Flashcards
What are the 7 types of media?
- text
- numbers
- hypertext
- audio
- images
- animations
- video
What are the two types of images?
- Bit-mapped graphics
- Vector graphics
Describe bit-mapped graphics
The image is made up of a grid of pixels. Each pixel is a different colour.
Describe vector graphics
The image is made up of mathematical descriptions of elements of the image.
What is the difference between video and animation?
Animation is man made whereas video is a recording of something in the real world.
What are the two modes of display for multimedia?
- a screen
- a speaker
What is one of the key characteristics of multimedia over traditional media
interactivity
What are the two forms of animation processing?
- Cell based animation
- Path based animation
Describe cell based animation
the animation is made up of a series of slides or cells which are played in quick succession to create the illusion of motion
Describe path based animation
objects are animated by following a pre defined path using a process called tweening.
Define tweening
The process of creating in between frames of an animation to fill in the path of the object in path based animation from the beginning to the end positions.
What are two effects in animation to create special effects?
- Morphing
- Warping
What is Morphing?
The smooth change between two different images.
What is warping?
Distorting a portion of the image.
What is the formula for calculating image storage size?
Horizontal x Vertical x Bit depth / 8
