A

Best initial defence in case of open wounds is to clean area
• Minor wounds control bleeding then wash with soap and water and if possible irrigate with large amount of fresh running water to remove debris and germs
• DON’T wash more serious wounds that require medical attension as it is more important to control the bleeding in these type of wounds

Amputations steps

A

• Check ABCs
• Calm and reassure
• Control bleeding ( direct pressure, elevate limb, and tourniqate if needed, and pressure point bleeding control)
• Save any severed body parts and ensure that they stay with patient - remove contamintating material if possible
- rinse body part if the cut end is contamintated with dirt
- wrap severed body part in lcean damp cloth and sealed plastic bag and immerse the bag in cold water ( don’t directly put it in ice)

• Take steps to prevent shock
- lay victim flat
- raise feet about 12 inches
- cover victim with coat or blanket
• Once bleeding at site is under control , examin for other signs of injury that need emergency treatment (fractures, cuts, …etc)
• Stay with the victim until medical help arrives.
