A schedule in which each instance of a particular response is reinforced.
Continuous reinforcement
An arrangement in which a behavior is reinforced only occasionally rather than every time it occurs.
Intermittent reinforcement
A temporary increase in responding during extinction.
Extinction burst
Increase in an extinguished behavior following a period in which the behavior did not have an opportunity to occur.
Spontaneous recovery
he development of a new behavior by the reinforcement of successive approximations of that behavior and the extinction of earlier approximations of that behavior until the new behavior occurs. Also called the method of suc- cessive approximations.
