Ch6 supply hose loads and deployment procedures Flashcards
forward lay
hose is laid from the water source ot the fire/emergency scene, female coupling is deployed first
reverse lay
fire hose is laid from the fire to the water source, male coupling is deployed first
The reverse lay is used when?
hydrant spacing is under 200 feet, the driver operater can see the incident scene, the water pressure is low(under 40 psi), and the supply line is over 500 feet
split lay
is a hoseline deployed in part as a forward lay and in part as a reverse lay by two pumping apparatus from a point between the incident and the water source
dual lay
The term dual lay can refer to any one of a number of ways to deply multiple supply hoselines; two or more same-sized hoselines deployed as supply hoselines by one pumping apparatus
combination lay
when two different-sized hoselines are deployed form one pumping apparatus and laid parallel to each other
A blank hose bed with 2 hose sizes offers the command officer a number of choices when determining the best way to commit limited resources
divided
what are the three basic hose loads?
accordion, horseshoe, and flat
what is a combination load
in a divided hose bed, where one side is set up for a forward lay and the other side is for a reverse lay
blank has a direct bearing on the manner in which hose is loaded and deployed and on the size of the hose used
pump size
accordion load
hose is laid preogressively on edge in folds that lie adjacent to each other
advantages of an accordion load
simple design for ease of loading, hose for shoulder carries can be easily taken from the load by simply picking up a number of folds and placing them on the shoulder
disadvantages of an accordion load
hose contains sharp bends which require it to be reloaded periodically, hose tends to wear on its edges, this load is not recommended for LDH
horseshoe load
it is loaded on edge but it is laid around the perimeter of the hose bed in a U-shape configuration
advantages of a horseshoe load
fewer shap bends in the hose
