ch5 forces and friction Flashcards
What is important about a force at an angle?
-It will have a vertical and horizontal component.
When resolving forces what is important about the force?
-Force must always be hypotenuse
if a box has a force working on it at an angle but it is in equilibrium how could you work out the normal reaction force?
-R-(8g+vertical component) = 0
If there are two forces working at an angle how could you calculate the resultant force?
Resolve for horizontal and vertical.
- Add the horizontal forces.
- Add the vertical forces.
-Then create new triangle with these values and work out hypotenuse.
- When working with forces on a slope how are forces dealt with?
- How does the weight act on the slope?
- Forces parallel to the slope
- Forces perpendicular to the slope.
-Works perpendicular so has a horizontal and vertical component.
What is the formula for max friction?
Fmax= mew x R
Mew is coefficient of friction.
R is normal reaction force.
When is friction at its maximum value?
-When it is in limiting equilibrium or when the particle is moving.
