What is scope of practice
The actions a provider is legally allowed to perform.

What is standard of care?
The care, a reasonable person with a similar training would provide in a similar situation.
What is involuntary consent?
When a patient is mentally incompetent or those in custody of law enforcement?
What is an advanced directive?
Written instructions signed by the patient specifying the patient’s wishes regarding treatment and resuscitative efforts.
What are the 2 types of advanced directives?
Dinner and a living will.
What is a living will?
They address healthcare, which is prior to entering cardiac arrest. This may include use of advanced Airways final later or feeding tubes.
What is the difference between assault and battery.
Assault- when one person perceives at the other person intends to inflict harm
Battery- physically touching another person.
What needs to be present for negligence?
Duty to act, breach of duty, damage and causation.
What’s the difference between negligence and gross negligence?
Negligence- provider is accused of unintentional harm to the patient.
Gross negligence.- an indifference to and violation of a legal responsibility. Reckless patient care that is clearly dangerous to the patient.

Person, place, time and event.
In what situations should you notify either law enforcement or medical examiners?
Dead on arrival, suicide attempts, assault or sexual assault, child abuse or elder abuse, suspected crime scene, childbirth.
