What should be done in case of patient falls?
Assess, report to charge nurse, provider, doctor, nurse manager, nurse, tech, conduct root cause analysis, and file an incident report.
Which patient populations are vulnerable to injury?
Geriatric patients and those with diabetes or chronic illnesses.
What are the types of restraints?
Wrist restraints, elbow restraints (for old people or children), mummy restraints (for babies), and soma bed (not good for PTSD).
What are common causes of errors in hospitals?
Administering medications or intravenous solutions, transferring a patient, changing a dressing, applying external heat to a patient extremity.
What is the most common cause of injuries in hospitals?
Falls.
What does RACE stand for in emergency preparedness?
R - Rescue anyone in immediate danger, A - Activate the fire code & notify appropriate person, C - Confine fire by closing doors & windows, E - Evacuate patients & other people to safe area.
What should be addressed in emergency preparedness?
Biological threats, chemical threats, radiation threats, cyber terror, mass trauma terrorism, pandemic preparation, identifying disaster resources, and psychological aspects of disasters.
What is the nurse’s responsibility in child abuse cases?
Report within 12 hours, call DCF, and recognize signs & symptoms (bruising, healed broken bones, abnormal bed wetting, flinching, avoid eye contact).
What should a nurse do for an abusive partner situation?
Involve social worker for an escape plan, pack a go bag, ensure safety for pets, and conduct routine screening for safety.
