Ch2 - Tools for Information Processes Flashcards
A mouse and keyboard are examples of devices used in which of the 7 information processes?
Collecting
Name the 7 Information Processes in order
- Collecting
- Organising
- Analysing
- Storing and Retrieving
- Processing
- Transmitting and Receiving
- Displaying
What happens in the Collecting process?
Decisions are made on what to collect, locating it and collecting it using input devices.
What is an operating system?
The software that is responsible for supervising and controlling the hardware and peripheral devices.
What is a GUI?
Graphical User Interface.
What is bias with respect to data?
It means that the data is unfairly skewed to a particular result.
What is ergonomics?
The relationship between people and their work environment. Poor ergonomics can lead to health and safety concerns.
Describe the Organising process.
Arranges, represents and formats data for use by other information processes. It involves digitising the data.
What is digitising of data?
Converting it to binary (1’s and 0’s) so that it may be stored and processed by a computer.
What is a common format for storing text?
ASCII which stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange.
What happens during the analysing process?
The data is interpreted and examined in order to turn it into information by giving it meaning.
When performing large or complex analysis what type of hardware is required?
Large amounts of storage
Fast processing
What happens in software when analysing data?
- Searching
- Sorting
- Modelling and simulations
- What if predictions
- Charts are created
What social and ethical issues relate to analysing data?
- unauthorised analysis
- incorrect analysis
- privacy
