Ch14-Emerging Trends, Technologies, and Applications Flashcards
🔑Virtual Reality (VR)
A technology that uses computer-generated, 3D images to create an environment and allow people interact as they do in the real-world
Simulation
The process of giving objects in a virtual reality environment texture and shading for a 3D appearance.
Interaction
Enabling users to act on objects in a virtual reality environment.
Immersion
Giving users the feeling of being part of an environment by using special hardware and software.
Telepresence
Giving users the sense that they are in another location and can manipulate objects even though they are actually in that location.
Egocentric Environment
Definition: A virtual reality environment where the user is totally immersed and commonly uses a head-mounted display (HMD).
Exocentric Environment
Definition: A virtual reality environment where the user is given a “window view” and can only view objects onscreen without interacting with them.
Central Coordinating Processor
Definition: The component of a virtual reality system that generates and manipulates high-quality 3-D graphics in real time.
Avatar
Definition: A 2-D or 3-D graphical representation of a person in a virtual world, allowing users to manipulate objects and experience a limited sense of telepresence.
Blockchain
Definition: A decentralized and distributed network used to record transactions across connected devices as blocks of data that cannot be altered after being recorded.
Manual control for navigation
Allowing users to navigate in the VR
environment and control various objects
Visual and aural systems
Allowing users to see and hear the virtual
world (E.g. Head-mounted display (HMD)
⭐️ Definition Quantum computing. Also, what its application?
It means high-speed computer that uses quantum mechanics to solve problems that classic com can’t.
It can be applied in data analytics, forecasting and self-driving cars.
