ch13-16 Flashcards
Social Psychology
The study of how people influence others’ behaviours, beliefs or attitudes for good or bad
Social Psychology Importance of Replicability
In social psychology, replicability is often difficult to reproduce due to sensitivity to subtle interpersonal cues.
Experimental setup, i.e. instructions, perceived attitudes/appearance of research assistants, and friendliness of other participants can all influence results of replicability
Need-to-belong Theory
Humans have a biologically based need for interpersonal connections. We seek out social bonds when we can suffer negative psychological and physical consequences when we can’t.
Evolution of Social Psychology
Many social influence processes have been naturally selected because they serve us well.
Conformity/obedience become maladaptive only when they’re unquestioned.
