Conditional release
Various means of leaving a correctional institution before warrant expiry

Statutory release
Conditional release that is allowed at two thirds point in sentence to serve remaninder in community supervised
One chance statutory release
Offenders who violate the conditions of a stat release are required to serve the remainder in confinement
Remission/discharge
Available to provincial inmates who serves 2/3 of sentence
Detention during the period of statutory release
Federal inmate may be denied stay released and be detained in the institution until warrant expiry date
Release plan
A plan setting out the residential, educational and treatment arrangements for inmate who is applying for conditional release
Community assessment
Evaluation of the feasibility of the release plan
Level of supervision required
Availability of community resources
Temporary absence
Conditional release that allows an inmate to participate in community activities while residing in a min security facility
Post incarceration syndrome (PICS)
Offenders in custody in the community that is caused by prolonged exposure to the dynamics of life inside correctional institutions
Community notification
The practice usually carried out by police agencies of making public announcement that a high risk offender has taken up residence in an area
Suspension of conditional release
Failing to abide by any of the set conditions
Or commuting a new criminal offence
What happens when a parolee is suspended (2)
1) parole supervisor cancels the suspension and released the person from custody
2) case is referred back to the provincial parole board to determine if it should be revoked
