What is the purpose of the IMO?
The IMO exists to play a key role in ensuring that lives at sea are not put at risk and that the marine environment is not polluted by shipping. Through drafting conventions etc which are ratified then adopted.

Assembly - highest governing body with representatives from all member states.
Council - includes representatives from 40 member states.

Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).

What is the IHO?
The IHO is an inter-governmental consultative and technical organisation concerned with hydrography, charts, publications and related technologies.
What is the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA).
IALA is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) devoted to the harmonisation of marine aids to navigation.
What is covered by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)?
National Maritime Limits - baseline, territorial waters etc.
Innocent Passage - passage of foreign vessels through territorial waters.
Transit Passage - Magellan Strait etc.
