Ch. 9 Joints Flashcards
Suture joint
In skull; no movement; fibrous joint
Explain Fibrous joints and types
3 types; No synovial space-fibrous tissue used to hold together
Syndesmoses
Band between bones, little or slight movement
Interosseous membrane
Hold the 2 limb bones together, permits slight movemnet
Cartilaginous joints
2 types
Synchondrosis-cartilage holds bone together, old epeiphysis plate, no movt
Symphsis-band of tissue holds bone together, little or slight movement
Synovial joints
6; Space between bones is called synovial space, filled with small amount of fluid
Planar joints
Synovial joint
Nonaxial movt
Side to side
Back and forth
Hinge joint
- synovial joint
- monoaxial
- movt in one plane
Pivot joint
- synovial joint
- monoaxial
- twirls around axis
Condlyoid joint
- synovial
- biaxial
- moves on 2 axis
Saddle joint
- synovial
- biaxial
Ball in socket joint
- synovial
- polyaxial
- spins in socket
Gliding
Side to side and back and forth ↔️
Flexion
Decreases the angle between the bones
Extension
Increases the angle between the bones
