Use of elevators under fire and emergency conditions requires the building to have:
- Designated Level (floor elevators will respond to upon recall)
- Smoke detectors (installed adjacent to elevators at each landing, usually in a vestibule on each floor except the lobby)
- Elevator Emergency Service (recall or recall/override capability)
