It has been handed down from the apostles. apostolic succession guarantees the sacraments. guided by the holy spirit.
what are the three ways the church is united as the mystical body of Christ?
Through the unity of doctrines. Also through faith, Pope and bishops are united in leadership.
why is the church holy?
chrust gives grace to the church. she is also holy bc she is the means by which all ppl are gathered to God.
what does it mean to say that the church’s authority is universal?
the church is Catholic bc she has universal authority. Spreads the Gospel to all the nations.
what are the rites of the Church?
the church includes a diversity of cultures. expressed through the 21 different rites.
what are the three wounds to the church’s unity?
heresy, denial of truth by a baptized person. schism, rejecting authority of Church, apostasy, rejecting of faith by a baptized person.
what is the foundation of the church?
the church is apostolic. she is built on the foundation of the Apostles.
how did the apostles pass on their authority?
handed the authority to their successors. By the laying on of hands- Holy Orders
why do we do penance?
the presence of sinners in the church is a reminder. its a reminder that we should always repent and do penance for our sins.
why does Christ give the church grace?
to make her holy. so that we can be united with God.
how does the church sanctify sinners?
there are sinners in the church. they are sanctified through grace of sacraments.
what are the two ways we can say the Church is one?
unique, it is the only church founded by Christ. unity, a unity based on christ, the source of unity.
what is a diocese?
universal church is found in a particular churches. Entrusted by a bishop.
what is ecumenism?
the task of working toward Christian unity. work toward common goals.
what does the church’s divine origin mean?
It’s immutable, indeflectible, and perennial. it never changes essential aspects, no flaw, and exists till end of time.
