Its used to refer to the Israelites. It applies to the new people, the Church.

to preserve the church from error. the Pope can lead in truth
where does the authority of the hierarchy come from?
the authority comes from the sacrament for Holy Orders. Source of authority is christ, not popular vote.
what is the deposit of faith?
scripture and tradition. everything that Christ handed on that the church proposes for belief.
what is the role of national bishops conferences?
bishops organize by national conference. discuss various matters w/in their country.
how does the term Kyriake describe the Church?
belongs to the Lord. The Church is defined as belonging to the Lord.
how is the church’s communion with God established?
the church establishes the communion b/w God and man. Through the sacraments- baptism and eucharist.
what are the extraordisnry actions of the Magisterium?
ecumenical council. when a Pope speaks ex cathedra.
what is apostolic tradition?
sacred tradition, comes from God. Different from human traditions.
what does the congregation of the doctrine of faith do?
the competence is to spread and defend the doctrine of faith. along with the traditions of the church.
what is the symbol of the bishops authority?
the place of a bishops chair. the symbol of his authority which is found in the cathedral.
what kind of leadership is the hierarchy called to?
through service. to reflect God’s doings such as the washing of feet.
what does the congregation of the causes of saints do?
covers canonization process. investigates candidates for sainthood.
what is the Roman curia?
administrative offices that aid the Pope in governing the day to day life of the Church. serve under the Pope.
what is the main role of the bishop?
bishops have the fullness of Holy Orders. They have the full authority entrusted by Christ, can celebrate all the sacraments-. Leading a diocese.
