A method that the messenger used as a emotive persuastion impact.
Also called slanters
An example of using the rhetorical device without possibly being aware would be in a basketball game. As I was in a basketball game, I watched the opponent’s score increasing with the feeling of distressed.
Rhetoric devices
A neutral or positive expression used in place of one that carries negative associations.
To make a word sound better
Ex: Collateral damage
Euphemism
Used to produce a negative effect on someone’s attitude about something, or to tone down the positive associations
To make words sound worse
Ex: Junk food
Dysphemism
A method of where the claim would be weakened in order to be protected from criticism.
Example- The Temu app offers huge discounts for both new and older users to avoid being criticized for their information being sold on the black market.
Weaslers
Method to make someone or something less important
These self-appointed environmental experts are just trying to scare us.”
Downplayers
A broad generalization of a whole group or idealogy of belief
“What did he expect to marry her? She’s just a dumb blond.”
Stereotype
The suggestion that you are not saying something (but you are)
Ex:“I didn’t say Bush invaded Iraq to help his buddies in the oil industry. I just said his buddies have done very well since the invasion.”
Innuendo
Rests on an assumption of a question that implies an answer; will be loaded questions if in the form of a question
Example- “When did you stop cheating on your girlfriend?”
Loaded Questions
A rhetorical statement that is also known as horse laugh; includes ridicule or vicious humor
Example- “Send aid to the egypt? Har Har Har”

Ridicule/Sarcasm
A statement that proposes a claim, but not literally.
Example- “Redbull gives you wings.”
Hyperbole
Suggests evidence without citing
Example- “Informed sources say…” without a citation; “Everybody knows this claim, it’s common sense.”
Proof Surrogate
Widely used rhetorical device that says the statement repeatedly; Information that is repeated is more likely to be accepted by the mind as familiar
Example- The soup is stirred and stirred until it thickens
Repetition
Likens two or more things to make one of them appear better or worse than another.
Ex: Sarah’s humor is as dry as Daren’s
