They block beta-androgenic receptors to limit sympathetic NS system stimulation and catecholamine release to lower HR
How do calcium channel blockers work?
Block calcium release to smooth muscle controlling vasoconstriction to lower BP
How do ACE inhibitors work?
Block angiotensin-converting enzyme from being secreted by the kidneys, blocking production of angiotensin II which constricts blood vessels
How do angiotensin II antagonists work?
Blocks angiotensin II, newer drug
Why are diuretics prescribed for hypertension?
Excretion of fluid lowers blood volumes, lowering BP, can cause water-salt imbalances
