What’s the difference between directive guiding and guiding communication?
Directive has trainer take charge of the conversation and be telling the client what to do whereas guiding has the client do most of the talking with the trainer giving advice and encouraging a desired behavior change while making it the client’s idea
What’s the benefit to using an “importance ruler”, and what is it?
Get clients to verbalize why the change has importance to them personally, have the client rate from 1-10 how/why they want to implement a change and ask why that and not a lower number
What is the tendency to offer solutions right away?
Righting reflex
What are the four steps of the planning stage?
Setting goals, generating/discussing alternatives, making a plan, evaluating the exercise program
What’s the difference between a process and a performance goal?
Process goals are actions take (ex. showing up to sessions) and performance goals are achievements in said actions (ex. certain weight achievement)
What are the three stages of motor learning?
Cognitive (just learning movement, tell-show-do), Associative (give some feedback), Autonomous (begin progressions)
What’s the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic feedback?
Intrinsic comes from the client’s own senses while extrinsic comes from the trainer
What does OARS stand for in regards to motivational interviewing?
Open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening, summarizing
