Discovery: The Nubian Kings of Kerma, Early First Millennium B.C.

A

burials were found of sacrificial victims when it came to the kings. around 400 citizens were killed per one ruler. This included members of their family and it was all done on the same day. The citizens were killed by slow suffocation.

Accidental Discovery

A

one well known early archaeologist hired a riverboat every summer. they dug along the riverbanks as he spotted sites. he knew cemeteries could be found from likes of stones and other things. Shells were also a huge indicator of graves.

Remote Sensing at Stonehenge, England

A

GIS has allowed archaeologists to model different environmental scenarios. This also helps with studying these cites. A british archaeologist Gaffney recently produced a virtual landscape of stonehenge. He did it at various stages of its construction. This allows one to walk through it but also reconstruct the sight lines.

Aircraft and Satellite Imagery

A

Chaco canyon was mapped by vivian with linear features. Lyons a geologist examined ariel photographs of the canyon. This showed road systems and identified more than 186 miles of them. NASA flew over chaco with a thermal infrared camera they located more than 186.
