Ch. 4.3 Flashcards
The theory that explains how tectonic plates move around and change shape on Earth’s surface.
Plate Tectonics
Places where plates collide into each other.
Convergent Boundary
Places where plates move away from each other.
Divergent Boundary
Places where plates slide past each other.
Transform Boundary
Occurs at mid-ocean ridges, and slides the lithosphere downhill under the force of gravity.
Ridge Push
Where the edge of the tectonic plate that contains oceanic lithosphere sinks and pulls the rest of the tectonic plate with it.
Slab Pull
Causes the oceanic lithosphere to move sideways and away from the mid-ocean ridge.
Convection
A system of satellites that measure the rate of tectonic plate movement.
