Ch 4: Assessments Flashcards
Canadian Occupational Performance Measure
Semistructured interview with ordinal scale to measure changes in client perception of performance and satisfaction with performance in self-care,
productivity, and leisure occupations
Time to Administer: COPM
30-40 minutes
Validity: COPM
Numerous studies support COPM as a valid measure of occupational performance. Combined COPM and Functional Independence Measure (FIMIM) scores were 65% accurate in predicting discharge status
Reliability: COPM
Test-retest reliability at 1-2-week intervals ranges from 0.63 to 0.89 for performance; and 0.76 to 0.88 for satisfaction
Sensitivity: COPM
More sensitive to perceived changes in client status than other disability meausres including Short Form 36 and FIM
-A 2-point change in score is clinically significant
Strengths: COPM
-Psychometrics studied in wide range of diagnoses
-Translated into 20 languages and used in more than 35 countries around the world
Australian Therapy Outcome Measure for Occupational Therapy (AusTOMs)
-Consists of 12 function-focused scales (ex. self-care and domestic life) that are scored across four domains derived from International Classification of Functioning.
-Disability and Health (ICF).
-Occupational performance is rated by therapist after completion of other standardized assessments.
-Useful tool for documentation of progress, program evaluation, etc.
Time to Administer: AusTOMs
5-10 minutes (scores based on other standardized assessment outcomes)
Validity: AusTOMs
Construct Validity established with EuroQuol-5D
Reliability: AusTOMs
Self-care scale: Moderate to high interrater relability across three domains (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (CC) = 0,79): somewhat lower for impairment domain (ICC= 0.70).
-Intrarater reliability also moderate to high (ICCs - 0.74-0.94) across domains
Sensitivity: AusTOMs
Sensitivity to change is documented, particularly in clients at acute and subacute facities and for those with neurological diagnoses.
Strengths: AusTOMs
-Scoring allows holistic assessment across levels of occupational performance (impairment through participation).
-Tests are quick to administer/complete.
Weaknesses: AusTOMs
-Scores are based on therapist perception of client outcomes.
-Reliability studies ongoing
